It is our choices

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
–Professor Dumbledore

Background: Harry, a young wizard, has just confessed that he has many things in common with Lord Voldemort, the most evil wizard of the time. Professor Dumbledore explains to Harry that the reason why he is not in Slytherin-basically the bad guy’s club- is because he asked not to be. He asked! (In regards to the importance of asking, please see a brilliant blog post:

In short, J.K. Rowling is my hero. Whether you are a natural at something or whether you have to slave away just to be okay at something, the only way to truly succeed is to work at that something. Which means that you have to make a choice. Are you going to spend your time and energy on that goal? Is it worth it to you?

I believe our lives are what we make of them. Like Auntie Mame said, “life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death.” There are so many good and great things in this world. There are also many bad and horrible things in this world. Which will you choose? How will you choose to spend your time? What is important to you? No one ever became the world’s best by sitting around wondering what to do next. We have the power to make our lives what we want them to be. What will you make of your life?
