A Few Favorites

Here are just a few of my favorite Shakespearean quotes:

“The course of true love never did run smooth.”-A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream

“To thine own self be true.”-Hamlet

“If music be the food of love, play on, play on.”-Twelfth Night

“But if it be a sin to covet honour, I am the most offending soul alive.”-Henry V

“Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s day?”-Sonnet 18

“Thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings, that then I scorn to change my state with kings.”-Sonnet 29

“All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”-As You Like It

“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks.”-Romeo and Juliet

“To be or not to be, that is the question.”-Hamlet

“For he today that sheds his blood with me,
shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England, now abed,
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here;
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.”-Henry V

These are some of my favorites; I have many more. What are some of yours?

  1. “Ah to ba a glove upon that hand that I might touch that cheek!” Romeo and Juliet

Your quotes are wonderful! I am so proud of you!
Shakespeare gives us advice for the ages. Let us all “gird up our loins” and seize 2010 by the horns and tackle all of our obstacles.

    “To infinity and beyond!”

    • “Ah to be in England!” You make a fabulous point. Thanks Mom.

  2. What a great collection of thoughts… Since you asked one of mine is:
It matters not how streit the gate,
how charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
    William Henley

Keep up the good work, Sweetie, Da
